WE HAVE A NEW PET. IT´S A RHINO!

RHINO [ Free-form Modelling Software with Grasshopper as a tightly integrated graphical algorithm editor ]

CAN YOU PLEASE TELL US ABOUT THE FOUNDER?

Founded in 1980, McNeel is a privately-held, employee-owned company with sales and support offices and affiliates in Seattle, Boston, Miami, Barcelona, Rome, Tokyo, Taipei, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai, with more than 700 resellers, distributors, OEMs, and training centers around the world.

WHAT EXACTLY IS RHINO AND WHY IS IT SO SPECIAL?

To be an effective designer today, you need tools to quickly develop your designs and accurately communicate them to everyone in the product research, development, marketing, and manufacturing or construction process.

Start with a sketch, drawing, physical model, scan data, or only an idea - Rhino provides the tools to accurately model and document your designs ready for rendering, animation, drafting, engineering, analysis, and manufacturing or construction.

Rhino can create, edit, analyze, document, render, animate, and translate NURBS* curves, surfaces, and solids, point clouds, and polygon meshes. There are no limits on complexity, degree, or size beyond those of your hardware.

WHY IS GRASSHOPER THE IDEAL ADDITION TO RHINO?

For designers who are exploring new shapes using generative algorithms, Grasshopper is a graphical algorithm editor tightly integrated with Rhino’s 3-D modeling tools. Unlike RhinoScript, Grasshopper requires no knowledge of programming or scripting, but still allows designers to build form generators from the simple to the awe-inspiring.

GREAT! SO THERE IS RHINO AND GRASSHOPER. WHAT ABOUT FURTHER PLUG INS?

Rhino and Grasshopper have a rich ecosystem of plug-ins for structural analysis, simulation, visualisation and fabrication of your design.

Many popular rendering and animation plug-ins work in Rhino. They help generating high-quality images of unparalleled realism and animating objects.

Rhino developer tools are free, royalty free, and include free support.

Rhino’s open architecture allows using Rhino as a development platform: a free SDK (C++ or .NET), and RDK (Rendering Developer kit), Grasshopper and a series of scripting methods (RhinoScript, RhinoPython) allow programmers of any level of expertise customize and automate Rhino and extend its capabilities.

Today, there are hundreds of commercial plug-ins for Rhino on food4Rhino and on the Resources page.

THANKS TO RHINO AND IT´S BIG McNEEL FAMILY FOR THE SUPPORT!
